I don't know, it depends on what city you live in. And the amount of smog varies with time of day, weather conditions, etc. They usually monitor it over a long period, so I would thing these things costs thousands of dollars.
Now many cities require an emission test on your car, along with an inspection. These are typically $30 to $40, but do vary by city/state. Is this what you meant?
