same deal if U wanted to get cheerleading heel streches or bow and arrows i took a course on this!

What really helps is buying leg weights getting agenist a wall laying your back on the floor, and putting your feet up at the wall, letting the weights pull your feet apart for a while and pushing them further when you breath out. You can watch TV upside down while you do this, or lisen to music.

the main thing is there no better then u they have just been working at it for a longer time and differnt bodys unfairly are more flexable then others. with work and devotion it will come

You have to do a lot of stretching. You can't just "learn" to do them. You stretch until your legs are flexible enough to do it. Stretch your legs several times a day, BEFORE sitting in the splits. Once your legs are loosened and warmed up with stretching, then sit as far as you can in the splits, without bending your knees. Make sure your hips are straight. If this means your butt's not on the floor, that's fine. Sit in the splits in all 3 directions for about 1 minute at a time, several times a day.

Every time you do it, they'll get a bit more flexible.

If you try to force the splits, you can seriously damage your leg muscles, and cause injury.

While all the answers that recommend gradual stretching, pushing a bit farther each time, are generally correct, I would like to point out that your muscles should be warmed up FIRST, or it's a lot easier to injure yourself. Stretching is not itself a warmup, it should be done AFTER the warmup. Jogging on the spot or round the practise hall, cycling, rowing, or skipping for 5–10 mins, are all good warmups.

I'm speaking from experience. I never did gymnastics, but I did do trampolining and highdiving for a long time, and kung fu for slightly less time, and you have to be flexible for those things as well. I also worked in a sports centre and did a lot of circuit training classes, etc.

Practice, practice, practice. Splits the straight way are hard, but you are going to have to stretch those legs in order to be able to do them. So my suggestion, try it. Go as far as you can to where you feel a slight pull in the muscles in your legs and then do it just a little (note LITTLE) bit further. Do this everyday and it will stretch you legs and soon you will be doing the splits. Make sure you are doing them right (ask someone first) so you don't hurt yourself, but otherwise this is something you should be able to nail on your own, good luck!

Well I am a cheerleader and I have been trying the same thing, and let me tell you...it takes time to get the splits perfect. Because if you were to attempt it the first time and try really hard to go down, your going to pull something, then you can't do it for awhile, then you get worse. So it's a slow quality process. Just stretch it all out and eventually you'll get it.

YOU CANT! It takes lots and LOTS of practice. Don't worry about the other people in the group. Hopefully you signed up because YOU love the sport, NOT because you want to compare yourself to everyone else. so just take your time, learn to do the splits the right way. It will work out better for you in the end.

Whoooooooooaaaaaaaaa - not so fast. If you've only been going to the gym for two weeks then you'll need to have been going a lot longer than that. You also perhaps need to speak to one of the trainers at the gym and get him/her to show you how it's done. You'll also need to warm up first too and learn how to stretch your thigh and leg muscles before you even attempt it.

you cant do the splits just like that, it takes time to gently stretch the muscles and tendons etc in your leg, try to do it too quick and you'll certainly injure yourself! there is gym equipment that will help you, but it's probably best just to do your stretching routine every day and try to get a lil further each time (just a little further!)

Youcan learn HOW to do them straight away, but it will be some weeks of practice before you manage it!
