Do you have a link to an article? I haven't heard this.

ADDED: thanks.

This law is just typical knee jerk reactionary nonsense. Just because one person commits a crime they say everyone who engages in similar behaviour is likely to commit the same thing.

Images and pornography do not make someone commit a crime. They are making excuses, for and rationalizing his behavior. Child porn is different because a child was victimized in the making of it. If an adult chooses to watch violent porn and the actors choose to perform there has been no law broken. So the morality police have to create one and make innocent people criminals.

By now people should learn you can't legislate morailty.

Nothing will stop these wretched people but I do have sympathy for the family of the woman murdered by the porn freak.
Only when sentencing reflects the crime and life means life will there be some justice.
At present sentences are halved automatically so 10 becomes 5 and if a plea of guilty is entered another 1/3 is taken off so the original 10 becomes 3 years and 4 months.

It won't solve anything or help anyone or prevent people from watching violent porn. There is a certain mindset infecting a good portion of this country that believes that jail is the answer for everything. This is why the US has a higher % of the population in jail and prison than any other nation on earth. Roughly 1% of America is in prison at any given time, and that doesn't even include the inmates of city, county and federal institutions.

God said, let there be light, etc. But what actually happened was that a prostitute appeared. She was quickly followed by the lawyer. Porn is what got the Internet started. It generates billions of money. Okay so violent porn is bad, so lets go punish people who are caught watching it. This will not stop violent porn it will only jack up the curiosity of those who may either be unaware of the availability of violent porn or who simply have not yet got around to seeing any - but who soon will. I'm in favour of banning everything that stops me doing what I want. I do not particularly want to watch violent porn but do not give a damn if other people do want to watch it. I do not gamble but cannot see why that should stop others losing their shirts if they so wish.

no well depends on the jail and how it is ran...
but jail is violent male booty so they will get what they watch upon them or others...
i think overall punishments need to change! screw the death sentence but lets bring in some other things like for the violent porn and i dont see a problem with as long as all parties are willing other wize it's rape! but for rape the person should have there things cut off and never re appplied! if you steal then cut off y our hands! I think that would lessen the crimes anywhere!
I know i wouldn';t steal if i knew my hands were going to be remeoved!
I don't think it should be done painfully unless there act was a painfull act of crime! i thin kthey should just wake up with the bill from the doctor and the meds and then be shoved off on there own marry way!
Mad luv

No, people who watch violent porn are damaged in some way. You can not cure damaged people by further damaging them with prison.

Incidentally, the people who say prisons are too easy these days are just plain stupid and ignorant. It is not uncommon in many jails for prisoners to be banged up 22 hours a day, especially when the prisons are short staffed. That is a form of mental torture and that is why the prison system does not work.

Even though there are some vile things on the internet, nobody HAS to look at them. I am wary of governments trying to find apparently plausible reasons to control internet content. It is always 'thin edge of wedge' when they try to convince us that they need to intervene in a particular area. Those, with a natural controlling mentality, will tend to go along with government sticking its nose in, but the rest of us should beware, because it will spread. Governments hate things that they can't control, and the internet was originally supposed to be the epitome of a laissez-faire approach. In fact, it was not considered possible for government to interfere or control.

But, to come to your main point, yes, there are far more pressing problems. Isn't this, therefore, simply another government headline grabber which takes the spotlight off those other, more serious problems.

Absolutely it will achieve something! It will put criminal behavior behind bars! Violent porn is extremely abusive to those engaged in making it! It should be outlawed on every front!

I think people have become too casual about such things because of seeing it in movies, etc. If it were your daughter or sister involved in the making of it, and were being hurt, you would certainly not want people seeing it, let alone her enduring the making of it. The whole idea is so warped, it's worse than pathetic. It's criminal!

When you see a fire you put it out. If viewing violent porn is permitted, then there will always be a willing, stupid, abhorent, perverse, audience of people to watch.

Stop the blaze. Stop the smolder. Stop the crime!

To those of you who think it's okay, and worse, to those of you who like to watch it---SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!

There's a big difference in watching violent porn and being one of the easily led Muppet's that feels it's there role to re-enact what they have seen.
Viewing violent porn maybe seen as weird or even sick but it should not be classed as illegal.
Re-enacting what you have just viewed on unwilling persons should carry a long jail sentence.

It depends if the person who was in the video was consenting and an adult. If it was something where they were tortured against their will or if it involved children in any way then they absolutely should be sent to jail. The only reason pornographers and abusers stay in business is by having customers. If no one is watching it then they go out of business and child porn disappears.
