It's Something I've always wanted to do but I never really understood how to get involved with it. There's also the fact that It seems that you have to be super-georgeous, and it not that I'm not pretty, I'm just not supr-georgeous. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas??

Find the big 5, the agencies in your country that do not charge sign up fees. The best ones don't do this because they know the business and the business knows they're good for their word. all agencies will take a percentage of your earnings and contracts, but the worse ones will charge you jsut to be on their books. They shouldn't charge, having you in there is getting them business and if a client doesn't want you he turns a page, not a big deal. so the big agencies do not charge. write letters, take head and body snapshots and send them with a covering letter to someone in particular, don't address a Dear Sir/Madam but look on the net, find out who is in charge of new talent or signing up and address them directly. Also try to attend a few functions and be spotted, talk to people and make friends.

good luck. that advice aside I have been trying for a little while to get some odd jobs to model on the side to help my college university fees and no one has taken me up on the offer apart from an agency that sought me out but wanted to charge me, who I turned down.

Best of luck.

You should check out some schools that offer Fashion Design and Marketing. Maybe that will interest you and may even get your foot in the door for other options such as modeling. Don't get your hopes up there are so many "want to be models" and actors out there. You also have something to fall back on if you don't succeed in modeling. You can take out a student loan like everyone else.

Try posting an offer on craigslist to model free for photographers (be sure to post a couple of snapshots of yourself). This way you can build up a portfolio you can show modelling agencies later.

Find someone who can take good pictures. Like a camera club or someone wanting to get into the photo biz. Ask them to help you out for little money. Than send out copys you like.
