Commonly identified migraine triggers are:
Alcoholn (like red wine)
Environmental factors (weather, altitude, time zone changes etc.)
Caffeine (coffee, chocolate etc.)
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
Nitrates (processed foods, hot dogs)
Glare
Hunger
Lack of sleep
Medications (over-the-counter and prescription)
Perfume
Stress

Once you know what your trigger is, you could start by working on that by trying to avoid it.
There are 4 things that we as human beings should always do for the sake of our health and if we follow these simple rules, we won't get ill, and will have a healthy lifestyle:

1. Diet:
Avoid all food containing MSG and all processed food. Avoid caffeine, sugar, white flour, saturated and processed fat and all foods that you are allergic to. (Did you know most people are allergic to diary?!)
But by avoiding these foods, don't neglect your diet. Eat healthy and regular. Cook your own food and forget take aways! Remember, raw is healthy, so you don't have to spend all your time in the kitchen!

2. Drink:
Don't ever be thirsty! And quench it with water. Drink 2 litres of water every day. Preferably purified or natural spring water. Avoid sodas (I see someone actually suggested it!), coffee etc. And read the lables of your fruit juice! Go 100% pure and dilute it 50% with water. You get use to it so fast, I can't drink fruit juice undiluted anymore, tastes like concentrate to me now.
And mentioning the wine on the list above is meant to say don't over do it. Wine actually lets you relax a bit. (Also read 1 Timothy 5:23!!)

3. Excersize:
By this I mean areobic. We need oxygene in our blood. Walking is sufficient, in fact, it is a highly recommended excersize. Go on hiking trails as often as possible.

4.Sleep:
We need a pattern and enough sleep. Depending on an individual, we need between 6 hours and 8 hours a night, but some people cope with less without any side effects and others need at least 10 hours a night. Remember each hour before midnight is worth twice as much than each hour after midnight!

A healthy lifestyle has its benefits and should be a habit! Ever since I started to adapt to these healthy habits, my health started to improve all by itself. I am not entirely there yet, but I am taking it bit by bit. But I would say, water is our no. 1 priority! It flushes out all the bad in your body and transports all the nutrients and prevents dehidration! Dehidration can also lead to headaches!

I get migraines about once a month. It used to be a lot worse though. Excedrin migraine works pretty good. I like to lie down in a dark quiet room and relax. Also, if I don't drink a soda at least once every 2 days I get a migraine. And Ive heard that eating peanuts when you feel it coming on helps. If you take the Excedrin when you first feel it coming on it helps too.

Get your eyes tested and your blood pressure as well, my father almost died because his blood pressure was so high and migraines were a symptom. If all is well with both your eyes and your BP, then check out what you are eating, keep a food diary and note what you have eaten around the time of each attack. Imigrain injections are wonderful, they open the blood vessels at the back of the neck and ease the pain within 20 minutes, speak to your doctor about them. I have also used Migraleve tablets, they come in pink and yellow, the pink are for pain and the yellow for nausea, it's worth a go!

There are prescription medicines that help. One has a pain killer combined with caffeine, caffeine seems to help open up blood vessels. I had horrible headaches as a child, when I started drinking coffee as a teen they went away and I almost never get headaches now. So maybe try an aspirin plus a cuppa java.

Many people have actually found that they are dehydrated. So, next time you get a migraine, drink 17 oz of water (not too cold) within 10 minutes. Many have been suprized with such a simple thing. Perhaps you will too.

Exedrin is good, but expensive. A cheap alternitive is two tylonal pills, two IBprofin pills and one shot of caffine (like a soda).
