How about establishing a travel allowance?
Reimbusing taxpayers at the cost of first class air fare is a drop in the bucket considering the $57,000-an-hour cost of flying Air Force One (old jet fuel costs) and does not cover the cargo planes that shuttle the president's limousines and helicopters to every event, or travel expenses of White House advance workers who lay the groundwork for the trips.

And these presidential travel abuses are no better than the Congress' use of lobbyists private jets for travel in exchange for access or for favorable legislation.

(cashcobra, my question was about the use of air force one at $57,000+ per hour to operate. If you want to talk about the Lincoln bedroom ($10 per hour), why don't you post a question)

I think pretty much every president has probably done this. I don't see it as a big deal.

Any expenditure is justified depending on the return. Clinton brought prosperity to a nation done that was on the ropes after a drubbing at the hands of the first George Bush. By this same standard Bush 2 has earned the right to get a free cab ride for a block and a half with no luggage, in Tijuana.

Air Force 1 is the way The President travels generally. Regardless of who is President anyone who has a problem with this needs to get over it. Now using The White House and the Lincoln Bedroom is against the law, but I digress.

Of course it was.

Just turn on your TV and watch the "conservative" media point out why Clinton was allowed and Bush is not.
