Nope...Durians are a tropical fruit that grows in tropical climate like Malaysia (where I stay), Indonesia and Thailand.
Besides that in Hong Kong serials, they always refer to buying durians from Malaysia. Either that, or its just a cheap publicity stunt to promote Malaysia.
Durians have different grades and different clones (they have different names as well). In Malaysia, you can get all these clones including the D24, "Kampung" (village) Durian, Raja Emas ("Gold King), XO durian, etc.
I just love the fruit. Its an acquired taste though. Either you love it to bits or you just can't stand the stentch. Its in season now here in Malaysia :)

durian, the highly esteemed, edible fruit of Durio zibethinus. The edible portions are the seeds found inside the large spiny fruits, which may weigh several pounds. The durian, although malodorous, has an aril (an extra seedcovering) that tastes like a combination of banana, caramel, and vanilla, with a slight onion tang. These seeds may be eaten raw, roasted or canned. The durian is an important cash crop in Indomalesia, particularly as an exotic export to Europe and North America. Durian is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Malvales, family Bombacaceae.
