It is very safe within the V&A. So do walk around and have fun. I have found the parking lots there to be very safe as well.
However, be careful about walking outside the perimeters of the V&A alone at night, even though I have driven in that area after 11pm and found very few people around. It is always better to be safe and be cautious and alert.
But inside the V&A it is safe. Enjoy!

V&A is very safe in the evening and also later in the night. Later in the night you dont want to be walking around alone too much though, it is just a risk i wouldnt take, unless you are with more people.

But all in all it is one of the safest places in Cape Town.

EDIT:

My general advice for Cape Town would be, stick to the main areas during the evening, especially when you are travelling. Living in Cape Town is different, because you know the ropes. But as a tourist stick to Long Street, Waterfront, Camps Bay. Also remember that being by yourself is less safe then with more than one, also don't dress like a tourist when you are out and about. This doesn't mean that you cant wear travel clothes, but dont where anything flashy or a T-shirt saying tourist (as i know a story of a girl that did that and got robbed three times in a month).

Definitely safe. Cape Town is generally one of the safest areas in South Africa, and with such a touristy location as the V&A Waterfront, you can definitely be there after dark. However, obviously, don't do it by yourself. Always stay with someone, and don't do anything stupid (ie. wandering into downtown by yourself) and you should be fine. And check out the Woolworth's there! They are one of the stores with a South African design section, and you can get some of the most amazing clothes! :) And then there's Mugg & Bean, possibly one of the greatest dining places in the world. Starbucks here in America doesn't even compare...Anyway, have fun!

i was born and bred in cape town, walked around the v & A often enough to know its entirely safe, why do you ask? where are you from? i'm living in london, essex and 2 weeks ago i read that here in the nice(ish) area i stay, a man got held up by 2 teenage boys with a samurai sword, and robbed him of 3 quid. what i find is that the crime in the uk is usually teenage related...wonder why. well, when i taught at secondary school for the last 4 years, some of them had really criminal instincts (theft, abusiveness, lying etc) i used to teach gangsters kids back home, but they never hurt a hair on my head, here, i've left teaching because of all the abuse teachers get in england. (was just wondering what you're trying to prove with your question??)

Is any place safe in South Africa? If you read their news reports they even attack you when you stop in the middle of nowhere. The South Africans will always tell you yes but remember they are conditioned to violent crime so their view is not valid.Comparisons to the UK are just a joke and should also be ignored. Anywhere in South Africa you need to be very careful and never assume you are entirely safe.Never flash money or valuables around because you will become a target. They will even murder you for your mobile so be very careful if you go there.

initially, 10PM in long island isn't evening. each and all of the eating places and maximum shops are nonetheless open, or only ultimate. in case you walk down Broadway or seventh ave you will see lots of persons on the line to boot as various site visitors and a powerful police presence. notwithstanding in case you agree directly to end for a drink or a snack, the comparable would be real. this is a secure place to wqalk, and it is approximately fifteen minutes. pass immediately down seventh Ave as which will lead directly to the inn. in case you do finally end up feeling uncomfortable, you're able to have the skill to locate a cab, yet i don't think of that which would be mandatory.

Absolutely. It is very busy and well lit. Bars and clubs are open until the early hours of the morning so there will always be people walking about. There are security and CCTV cameras about. You dont have to worry about anything.
