Never.

There have always been terrorists. They just used to be called names like "bandits", "pirates" and the "barbarian horde". The names have changed, and so have the available weapons, but the threat has always been there.

There will always be terrorists and criminals. At least as long as there is hatred and fear in the world. Living in terror and panic, sacrificing our liberties to cower like rabbits, surrendering the freedoms this country was founded on in the name of security -- these will not make the threat go away.

In fact, giving in to panic and fear and terror, letting go of our belief in the greater good, these are the goals of the terrorists. They want us to be afraid. They want us to close our doors and windows, to hide under the bed, to allow the police to break into our homes and private lives so we have no liberty or happiness. This is what they want to accomplish -- us living in fear.

The threat is never going to go away. The only thing we can control is how we choose to live in response to it.

In a word, never. People seem to forget that prior to 9/11 the largest terrorist attack in this country came from within in the form of Timothy McVey. You're right, there will always be people who hate the US government and will take out their anger on anything and anyone who is American. What scares me more than a 9/11 style attack is some guy walking into a shopping mall at Christmas with some TNT under his coat. It doesn't have to be anything sophisticated but the affect on the country's moral, not to mention the economy, would be devastating.

I think you are right, and if you look at history you can see that there has been terrorism thru the ages. It has its phases, its ups and downs, now seems to be an 'up' time unfortunately. The 9-11 plot was gigantic, massive, but it was not rare, its been going on around the world for various causes for centuries.

Understand that terrorism isn't just all the muslim extremists in the middle east, it is the idea of using fear and/or violence, the school bully is a terrorist, the U.S. government can be a terrorist, it's not that simple. Complete enilation of the idea of terrorism is impossible, and shouldn't really be thought of, this si why Bush's war of terrorism is a really dumb idea that is only hurting the U.S. and it's allies. The best thing we can do is try to see what we can do to calm them down or protect ourselves from them.

Yes we can defeat terrorism and yes there have always been people that are resentful of the USA for many reasons. Some of them would kill us and many others are just spiteful and just resent us. We need God's help to win this one as we have needed His help in the past.

I believe that it never can be. The reason why is because this country will always give us freedom and there are other countries that do not believe in that. They want us to live in fear and by making us afraid they have already won. There is no way that terrorists would give that up. Plus there are families in countries that bred their born children to become suicide bombers and they make them believe that they must die for their country, and by doing that they receive money from terrorist organizations.

No. It's never-ending. The "Mission Accomplished" banner is a sad, stupid reminder of that pipedream. The best we can do is combat terrorist-training camps, alleviate world hunger and health issues, and "remain vigilant" without sealing our houses in duct tape and plastic sheeting.

Not for a long while.... though its possible... but we will likley go thru a very bad time to get there.

Even if we killed all the terrorists and all the roots of it, it would still potentially be around and grow back.
