Played on November 6, 1869, at New Brunswick, New Jersey.
On that day Princeton and Rutgers, using a soccer-style round ball, played on a huge field (120 yards long and 75 yards wide) with 25 players on each side--and no officials. Rutgers scored 6 goals to the visitors' 4.

They beat Princeton 6-4. Interestingly, they played thereafter until sometime in the 1930's or 40's and Rutgers didn't win again until 1938! An amazing 69 years between wins. Even more amazing was a lineman for Rutgers named George Large. He recovered a fumble in that first game that set up Rutgers' winning score AND lived to see Rutgers win in 1938 when in his late 80's to early 90's! He was the only survivor of the first game who lived to see Rutgers beat Princeton twice.
