The chip represents a grudge you are holding about something, or hard feelings you may have over an issue. If it were literally on your shoulder, the whole world could see it, so it's no secret. It can also be just that you feel strongly enough about something that you become difficult to reason with as a result.

It means you feel bitter about something that happened to you in the past.
I think people usually use it when talking about something fairly minor that happened quite recently. For example, if you had an arguement with somebody and they still didn't apologise for whatever a few days latter, and you were still annoyed you would have a chip on your shoulder.

Could be talking about bone chips. Broken pieces of bone from the knee or ankle. Arthroscopic surgery is the usual course of action. after surgery and rehab the horse is usually ok.

its a metaphor for being pissed off . like "dont talk to rob, he's got a chip on his shoulder" like he's in a bad mood, or angry.
