I have a pair of brown winter shoes plus a pair of brown boots but really have my eye on a gorgeous black coat, can I get away with it without having to spend more cash on black boots.

Wear the boots. Try on the coat and look in a mirror. If you like what you see, why is my opinion important?

It depends on the colour of the pants you are wearing... If you have on black pants with the black coat, wearing the brown boots will look really bad. If you're gonna wear jeans or a tweed pant it will look good. My advice is to get a black pair of boots because they are an essential wardrobe basic that everyone needs.

Most of the shallow people I know would never want to be seen in the same room with someone whose boots did not match her gorgeous coat. Spare no expense to avoid a Faux pas.

Wear the same color slacks and shirt as your shoes/boots then wear the coat over --that would work. I have worn black coat and brown shoes but the shoes were dark brown and it worked

How about this for a concept? Wear what you want, when you want to, because you personally like the way it looks to you. Start your own fashion trend, the trend of being true to yourself.

Or do you want to spend the rest of your life being a slave to the tastes and opinions of other people?

if they're dark brown shoes, you can probably get away with it. if they're light brown..... ... ...

you know what who cares? it's just boots and a coat, it doesn't sound like the match is that bad anyway.
