I just go a letter saying that I had an abnormal pap and I need to come in and have a colposcopy? I talked to my mom about it and she says it happens to almost every woman after giving birth because of the trauma in the vagina.. but i had a c-section?? Is it normal to have it, or should I be worried, cancer runs thick in my family...

Giving birth and having an abnormal pap are definately related. After giving birth vaginally, the cervix is inflamed from the birth process. That's why it is typical procedure NOT to do a pap on a post-partum visit. The usual wait time is 3 months post partum for a pap smear. It is important to remember that a Pap Smear is just a screening test, and not diagnostic. You state that you had a c-section, and it is still possible for inflammation of the cervix to be present, for various reasons. An abnormal pap smear does not automatically mean you have cancer of the cervix. It just alerts the doctor to any abnormal cells that may be present. These abnormal cells might turn into cancer, or they might not. That's why the doctor is doing the colposcopy....to get a better look at the cells on the cervix and possibly do a biopsy to get a definitive diagnosis from the pathologist. Even if there is a diagnosis of cancer, there are many things that can be done as treatment to have a good outcome.

A colpooscopy is a biopsy of the cervix. Your pap smear received't influence the toddler. All a unusual pap smear potential is that there stands out as the presence of HPV cells. even as they do a colposcopy the cells will both come back low probability, intense probability or no probability. All it determines is the danger that those cells would change into cancerous. no longer something to agonize about.

No, alot of woman have this regardless of babies or not. I have no kids. I have had coposcopy test done. I have also had the laser and LEEP done. It is very easy to treat when detected early. If it goes along time without being looked at or treated, it can develop into cervical cancer.
