Each of the disks contains different components like sound, building material, animations, meshes, and engines that make the calculations for what sims are to do in your game. All four are required to play the basic game. And each time you start up, the game wants to check disk one to be sure you have a valid copy of the game.

If you're worried about disk space or your computer running too slow, it is a fact that older machines or ones built to do office procedures cannot handle the intensity of processing required in a game like the Sims.

To check to see how up to par your machine is, then test it with this tool. The tool will let you know which components of your computer needs tweaking, if any.
In the black box, pick The Sims 2 - or the version in question
