We get no accountability from the people who spend our money.
Ted Stevens, the most senior Republican in the Senate, don't want you to see the wasteful mess that he and his party have made of the federal budget.
From Iraq to our own Gulf Coast, dollars that could be saving lives are being held up, misspent, or wasted. Troops don't have the body armor they need, small businesses in New Orleans haven't received support, and across the country 45 million people go without health insurance.
Republicans have created the most expensive government in history through their corruption and out-of-control spending, but at the same time they've either refused or failed to meet the challenges of governing, like adequately preparing for disasters like Hurricane Katrina.
We've seen the damage that Republican secrets and lies can do to our country, and enough is enough, right?

RIGHT, corruption and right-wing ideology a.k.a "the politics of fear and hate" are slamming our great country and "everyday" Americans into the ground. The level of deciet and manipulation by the criminal Bush administration is phenomenal. Exclusion, racial/social polarization, sexism, homophobia, destroying the environment, rigging elections, shooting friends in the face, etc. Just another glorious day in America under King Georgie boy and his reign of terror, makes you wonder who the REAL terrorists are.

No. Only a single insurmountable nightmare.

The federal debt has increased in the past 6-8 years from 5 trillion to almost 9 trillion, and will likely have doubled to over 10 trillion within the next two years. A full 10%-15% of our national annual budget just goes to paying the interest on those loans, up from just over 5% in 2000.

In other words, our net available funds (for any purpose) have dropped by almost 10%. And we are engaged in an open-ended war that serves no useful domestic purpose, costing tens of billions of dollars per year.

What makes it worse is that the Republicans in power now are just using the playbook established by the Democrats earlier. The Republicans are just more organized and effective at spending money than the Democrats ever were, so the numbers are ramping up even faster. But putting Democrats in power is only going to slow the rate of increase, not actually reduce anything.

There is no way we can ever pay off the debt without effectively eliminating most domestic programs and drastically reducing the military. And that's just what the current administration wanted. Either the next president lets things stay this bad, or he will take crippling commentary about slashing social programs and weakening defense if he tries to actually address the problem.

It's a win-win for the Republican party, and a lose-lose for America.

Although I mostly agree with you, I don't think it's just Republicans. I think politicians from both parties over spend.

Instead of blaming one party, I think a system should be put in place where spending is VERY public, and where we can easily know which politician is responsible for what spending so when we go to vote for them, we are more informed. In the age of the internet, you would think this would be possible, yet when we go to vote for our senators, governors, and president, we really only have what they say in T.V. ads (for themselves and against their opponent) to go on.

Yes,

And I am old enough to see this happen for the 5 time, each time it is worse than the last.

The Democrats will do no better, so don't get to excited about them, that is only false hope on your part.

We need a truly INFORMED population which will bring in a 3rd. Party.

Peace, and don't blindly follow either party, they are both to blame.

It is not the responsibility of the U.S. government to provide healthcare or rebuild small businesses. I believe the person who deserves the blame for inadequate preparation for hurricane Katrina is Ray Nagin.

The only corruption that I'm concerned with is the corruption on the U.S. Supreme Court -- the most utterly unaccountable people in government. Those a55holes give me nightmares.
