Many physics teachers in India are found to wear gems on their fingers in order to ward off evil. Many of them defend this practice by invoking pseudo-cosmological logic, viz., the absorption of particular wave-lengths of electro-magnetic waves by particular gems. Does not this constitute a travesty of basic physical laws - which physicists are supposed to teach in their classes and practise in their laboratories?

Physics is science and Astrology is also one kind of science . We are not ready to accept it, but
in Physics , we talk about the wavelength of sound & light which we can hear or see ....

Astrology tells us about how it affects us .
it's different ........people believe in it in different manner religiously. we also think, how mars or jupiter can affect us it's too far but here Physics helps Astrology informing us about their distance , size etc. it 's not that if we cannot see or hear so it doesn't work.
Blind men never say, i don't think there maybe the Sun or Moon ............

You can have endless arguments for and against. But the reality is both are co-existing in present time - as you yourself quoted in your question.

Scientifically, Physics is a 100% science whereas successful astrology is a very fine blend of science and art - most of us hardly practice.

Practically, it is bread and butter for many for both side occupations. Let us keep refining our evidences for and against and meantime, let them co-exist ( for social harmony atleast).
