Does anyone know? The president and Rumsfeld criticize those who call for a withdrawal of our troops but if victory is defined as handing security over to the Iraqi military then that means pulling our troops out. Is it just a question of timing? Or do you think they define victory as stabilizing things enough so we can use Iraq as a staging area to go into Iran?

christopher b-For a long time Bush has linked the war in Iraq with the overall "war on terror". How can he pull troops out of Iraq, regardless of the security situation there, while still fighting terrorists elsewhere?

The establishment of a stable and lasting democracy in Iraq, where the new govt is not threatened by a civil/sectarian war.
The problem is, that took most of 100 years in the US, and we hadn't already been in a civil war when the new govt process started.

I don't know how many different ways in can be said - we will leave Iraq when their security forces are able to maintain the stability of their nation. Do you need it spelled out...
If that means making a permanent base their, than even better. That means there will be another stable democratic force in this region that is rife with religious fascism and terrorism. In case you haven't noticed, there have been attacks from Muslim Extremists on every Westernized Nation in the world. Do you really think their attacks on us are about oil?

Since they stopped copying me on the memos, I can only guess that victory to me is handing security over to the Iraqi Military and then pulling our troops out. I am hearing some positive news out of Iraq in regards to the different factions working out their differences. I am sure that Iran is a valid concern to Iraqi's, as it is to everyone else in the middle east with secular governments. We will just have to wait and see.

The white house defines victory by how much profit they can milk out of the Iraqi war for their business partners in the oil, construction, and defense industries.

Everyone wants us to leave. The question is: do we leave before stabilizing it, or after?
I think you have defined victory as Bush has. As they stand up, we stand down.
Whether we have the ability to prevail is one thing. Whether we have the willpower to is another.
Time will tell.

They don't define it...thats why everyone is so upset....they have know idea what a victory is....otherwise they wouldn't have wasted so much tax payer money on "mission accomplished"
What a joke that whole thing was....guess they forgot about some part of the "plan"

we havent claimed absolute victory in iraq yet. We declared victory over saddams forces, we claimed victory in establishing a working democracy, however weak it may be in the beginning, but we havent claimed absolute victory. dont try to twist president Bush's words to make them fit your aganda.

Depends on what week you listen to them. Now they are saying when Iraqis can defend themselves. Iraq was really taking our eye off terrorism! Now it is a mess and we have to clean it up.
