Only it's tail got nipped, though, so I let it go. Was this the right thing to do?

No, you should have tried to find out why it was "backing into" your trap.

Yes it was but you should of maybe got you're camera first then let it go or put it in a cage,hutch or a kennel and go to the police and see if they have seen any thing's like that .

well a bear trap is big, and a bubby has small ears and don,t have antlers, what are you drinking or putting in your pipe? please get rid of bear trap and take a pill you,ll be fine hmmmmmmmmm
