Well I have my fangs pierced. (one lip ring on each side)

Well the procedure is fast and isn't that painful. They use a hollow nosed needle and stick it through your lip. They then take a ring (they usually use a ring in case your lip does swell, if you get it pierced with a stud and your lip swells it could put a lot of painful pressure on the stud, this has happened to me... it hurts) and put one end of the ring in the hollow nose of the needle and then pull the needle out which pulls the lip ring in your lip. It happens really fast. The pain usually comes in the next few days after you get it done. It will be tender but it is your mouth so it will heal really fast. Especially if you take care of it. Clean it out with eye contact solution (saline solution I think) every morning and use Listerine after every time you eat drink or smoke. In the mornings make sure you get all the built crust off the ring before you turn it or it will hurt if that crust goes into the hole! OUCH. Make sure you turn it regularily to help it heal faster... just make sure you do not do it too much to aggrivate it. The normal cost varies from shop to shop. I always got mine done for free but my guess is it shouldn't cost more that 50 bucks. Hope this helps.

Its not body mutilation it is body modification!

Eddie,
Why do you feel the need to state your opinion on what is attractive? May be she isn't doing to to look more or less attractive... maybe she want to do it because SHE thinks it will look good. Ever think of that?

okay well i dont have them anymore
but i had my lips peirced on both sides
right and left (( Snake Bites ))
you go in the place
theyll sit you down, open a new needle
put the rubber band on the clamp with the needle in it, im not excatly sure how they do all that , i was too nervous to pay attention.
MAKE SURE THEY PIERCE IT WITH A HOOP, not a stud (( the ball )) , you need a hoop so it can breathe and heal properly
i got mine peirced with a stud and i almost had
to get my lip amputated because it cut of the circulation to my lips, anyways.. it will swell for like the first day, make sure you clean it with Saline Solution or Bactine, you can get them at a CVS, or RITE AID. or something, i use saline solution and it works great, but i know people use bactine too, there are diff kinds of jewerly you can use after you wait 4-6 weeks so it can heal properly, the hoop they putin after its pierced is connected by one ball, and if u take it off it is very hard to get back on so dont take it out unless you have other jewerly to put it in, cuz it can come out without the ball. OK im not gonna be like everyone else and tell u that piercings dont hurt, i have about 16 peircings, and srry a needle going through your skin, yes of course it hurts, some people just take it better than others, and it wont hurt after like the first two days at the most. when they pierce it, it will be like a sharp pain, and your eyes might water, but its worth it after you get it. Mine piercing cost 40$ but its different at different places. Hot Topic is good for lip rings, and Claires i like thier body jewerly or little stands in the mall.

if you have any other questions feel free
to email me, i probably left some stuff out
unitentionaly

hope this helps

I'm assuming that you're talking about lower lip rings. I had a labret (pronounced "lay-brit" NOT "luh-bray") piercing when I was 20 as well as a philtrum (more commonly known as a medusa).

The labret didn't hurt much at all and the piercing itself was $20, but I think that may be in part because my partner had several piercings at the shop and was friends with the head piercist... the cost didn't include the price of jewelry, but we brought our own (surgical stainless steel) and had it go through the autoclave. Some shops will let you bring in your own jewelry if it's of a certain material (the Association of Professional Piercers suggests niobium, titanium, steel, or tygon/PTFE on initial piercings.), but you should check first.

The procedure wasn't too terribly bad for me, but my partner had some problems. He said it was painful the first time, but going through the scar tissue (he got it repierced) was worse.

I didn't end up swelling from the labret, but the philtrum made my whole upper lip swell up (I felt like a platypus), though it wasn't as bad the second time. There was still swelling and lots of pain, as well as a little blood. The philtrum was a very painful piercing, whereas the labret was more like a pinch (and feeling like I had been kicked in the face a few minutes after the piercing).

I'd suggest using labret studs for the initial piercing, in part because a ring may be too tight if there's swelling. I know this is opposite what other people are saying, but the stud they use should be about 7/16" initially and you shouldn't change it for the first month. 5/16" may be too tight to accomodate swelling (this is why other people have problems!), but is the standard healed stud size.

The procedure should run something like this: you enter the shop, they go over how they're going to do the piercing, they show you the spore tests and run the autoclave on the tools and jewelry, you rinse your mouth out with mouthwash for at LEAST 30 seconds, your lip is cleaned, they mark your lip with a surgical marker or toothpick in dye, you look in the mirror to approve of the placement (or tell the to change it), the clamp goes on, the needle goes through, the needle is corked, the clamp is removed, the jewelry chases the needle out, they go over aftercare (and provide you with it in writing), and you're outta there (assuming you don't pass out). For me, the clamp was more painful than the needle going through!

For the next few days, avoid spicy, hot (as in temperature), salty, and acidic foods, as these will irritate the fresh piercing. Avoid oral sex and any kissing other than a "granny peck" (even in monogamous relationships) for a month because this will both irritate the piercing and holds a risk of infection. Don't play with the piercing unless you're cleaning it (and make sure your hands have been washed first) and avoid makeup about 1/4" around the piercing until it is healed. Try not to smoke or drink for a week or so after the piercing, as this will thin blood and cause swelling.

After each meal, swish with a non-alcoholic (generally kids' varieties) mouthwash or a sea salt solution. It's suggested that you use seasalt soaks to help speed up healing. NOTE: do *NOT* use tablesalt (NaCl), as this will irritate the piercing. You can pick up sea salt at most grocery stores in the spice isle. (Ask an employee to help you locate it if you want.) Ask your piercist what strenght of the solution you should use. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and apply it to the outside of the piercing for about 5 minutes. I use ACT mouthwash and sea salt soaks.

Oh, I read someone's comment here that HotTopic was good for lip rings. Their labret jewelry cut the inside of my lip because the disc was so sharp! I'd suggest buying jewelry online, as the shop may overcharge. (The price of the jewelry may be included in the piercing price!)

Fianlly, stay away from acrylic until your piercing is healed. Retainers are made of clear plastic, but they won't totally hide your piercing. Even when healed, you will only be able to take your piercing out for a few minutes, probably, because the membrane inside of the lip heals quickly.

I hope that helps! Oh, and I'd suggest a 14g piercing. Jewelry is common in both 14g and 16g and it's easier to guage down than up with these piercings.

I had my ears pierced by a gun at Wal-mart when I was 20 and had my labret done by a 14g needle a month or two later. My ears hurt worse than the lip if that helps you any. :)

It would not injury undesirable like 3 out of 10, its only that the swelling form of sucks. it often lasts for a bout a week so only take some ibubrofen to help with that. It takes 6 weeks to heal. only using fact the outdoors is healed up in 2 weeks does not recommend the interior dermis is healed to boot. It expenses everywhere from 25 to 50. it honestly relies upon on the jewellery. often interior the 25 to 30 greenback variety for many.

i've never had it done, but i have had other piercings. the piercing that hurts the worst is your ears. it will swell at first, but you just take care of it and it will be fine. the cost is usually 40 bucks or so. when you first get pierced you get surgical steel rings. after it heals you can put whatever you want in it

That is one of the least attractive body parts to pierce. Are you sure that you want to go through the pain and not be happy with it?
