When Master Kenobi placed Annakin Skywalker's twin children into protective adoption, I can understand why he gave one to Senator Organa; there would be no way the child could be traced. However Luke was given to his 'Uncle' who by a continued to call the boy Skywalker.
My main problem is that with all the resources available to the Empire, wouldnt the task of tracking down a farmer called Skywalker simply be as easy as typing the name into a computer? Man, the Emperor really dropped the ball that time.

there are 2 books that are out that take place between episodes 3 and 4, I suggest that you read them if you are curious. The books do go into what you are asking. I won't spoil them for you.

One of the titles is (I can't find the other title-it does exist)
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (Star Wars) by James Luceno

Ok ENTER THE NERD

I think what your all forgettingis the in 3 Anikin envisioned his wife dieing in child birth with the children dieing too. Anikin simply did not know that his children survived the ordeal. Luke was left with Owen Lars because upon being born Luke had a high midichlorian count so Luke was sent to his uncle on an unimprtant side of the galaxy which also served as a hidding spot for Obi Wan as well.

I know... but the Emperor told Annakin that Padme died (that he killed her in his anger) so he probably thought that he killed the baby (he didn't know she was having twins). He knew his brother, or uncle (or whoever) was still living, so the baby could have been his kid, so why would Darth or the Emperor try to look for the kid in the first place! Not only that, but Luke didn't know who he was, so his Jedi power was kept under wraps, so he could not be detected!

Wow, that was a big dork moment. That is how I rationalize the whole thing.

Annakin or Darth had a universe to conquer and control, he was just waiting for the kids to grow up and he didn't want to have to nurse them along. Sort of like a catbird laying her eggs in a robin's nest.

You got to remember 4, 5 and 6 were made back before computers and good hair cuts were availible, so they obviously didnt think of that stuff.. lol There are hundreds of other things that are stupid in the transition between 3 and 4... they are countless lol

I think it works the same way that law enforcement works currently in America; many planets in the federation do not have a cooperative database of info on criminal history, just as states often do not transmit to other states the criminal histories of all its convicts. Very often someone under suspicion of a crime can flee justice by moving out of state. Same concept.

You are RIGHT. Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) knew about Owen, he was his half-brother; and Anakin (Darth) knew where Owen was.
