I'm a manic depressive. I've been dealing with my problem since I was 13 (I'm 23 now). First, you need to figure out what is making you depressed. Second, if you can't fix it on your own then make a doctors appointment. Third, see a therapist. Most of the time that helps. A lot of the world today is on medication for depression so don't be embarrassed to see you doctor or to have him recommend someone. I took Prozac from the time I was 13 until I was 18. You want to make sure you take you meds at the same time everyday and it will take about 2 weeks for you to see results. I haven't taken any meds for my depression for a while now. I know what my problem is. Plus, my insurance won't cover it anymore. If you don't have insurance then try to get on Medicaid. I know how you feel, so believe me when I say Good Luck. Its a long process to get over some parts of depression. Every once in a while I have a relapse, but I deal with the problems and everything gets better. My doctor also recommended some over the counter supplements too. Some over the counter vitamins help with depression and your serotonin. Ask you doctor what you can do.

Where can one seek help for depression?

A complete physical and psychological diagnostic evaluation by professionals will help the depressed person decide the type of treatment that might be best for him or her. However, if the situation is urgent because a suicide seems possible, taking the patient to the emergency room is the appropriate course of action. If the patient makes a suicide gesture or attempt, a 911 call is warranted. The patient might not realize how much help he or she needs. In fact, he or she might feel undeserving of help because of the negativity and helplessness that is a part of depressive illness.

My family has a history of mental illness. Bi-Polar, Schizophrenia, Suicide, Severe Depression, Alcoholism, Drug Addiction. I hate medication because of this. When I am depressed I try to keep very busy. The more I can find to do the better I am but sometimes nothing works. It can be very serious. You need to see a doctor or a psychiatrist who can put you on an anti-depressant. They help. Just stay busy, busy, busy.

i read, or go outside in the breeze to think. i like t be somewhere quiet and away from people an the world. sometimes i cry, sometimes i think, sometimes i just sit.

im not really depressed or anything right now, but thats what helped with when i didnt know what to do and the world was overwhelming me. anything to stay calm and try to wind down and chill out is the best medicine for me.

do things that make you feel good about yourself and keep you peaceful.

Talking to one special friend usually cheers me up or I take my mind off of real life for awhile by watching TV or going on 'answers' . Forgot one thing that always helps me when I am feeling blue is shopping. That's why I was addicted to Ebay but luckily I got over that and discovered this free site instead.

Either find the one thing that you live for, the arts are usaully a strong choice, but not the only one, and do that. If you haven't foudn anything that you enjoy that much, find some mindless amusement, watch t.v. listen ot some really cheesey jokes that you hate because they are so stupid, but you just crack up at them anyways. Sometimes the best cure fro depression is to turn your brain of for a minute and laugh it off.

Exercise. Even just walking. Do it for at least 30 minutes. There are chemicals released in the brain that will ward off depression. So simple but true. If you are very depressed you may not want to do it. Do it anyway.^-^

I compose music or write songs ....
Or, just go for a walk in the wind
out in natures landscapes of life.
One can change the brain chemistry
by meditation or relaxing .....
But, everyone is different,
what works for one does not necessarily
mean it will work for someone else !!
gOOd luck !!!!

A heavy dose of my favorite dark chocolate, a stack of dumb magazines, some goofy movies, my most comfortable pajamas... and the people I love to be with.
