Yes there are if you go into borders books and look in the section devoted to mythology and metaphisics, you will find a lot. As for the nordic, go onto borders online and look up anything by Ed Fitch, if you want to know some of actual pagan rituals. Also go to a search engine for any book store and type in Nordic Magic and you should come up with something on the norse religion it should work the same for a lot of the others such as roman, greek, celtic and egyptian.

Of course there are! There are smaller books for particular ones, but I actually own a very large book with the title "Mythology" and it basically has a lot of mythology from all around the world and therefore some insight on the culture. If you are looking for specific religions/cultures, I suggest goign to a library.

Actually, the bible is made partly of several books that originated before christ. As a matter of fact, christ himself had quoted from the books of the old testament.
the Old testament contains documents many old cultures and traditions, although it's from the prespective of the ancient hebrew prople.
You can learn quite alot about the ancient world from reading it.

Check out Joseph Campbell's 4-volume magnum opus "The Masks of God." He has a volume on primitive mythology, one on oriental, one on occidental, and one on "creative" mythology. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you can always go back to Sir James Frazer's classic "The Golden Bough," but be sure to get the unabridged version. Also see "Pagan Christs" by James Robertson. If you could find anything by Alvin Boyd Kuhn, such as "Root of All Religion," or "Lost Light," or "Shadow of the Third Century," you'd definitely be in the right place. Happy reading!

there are a number of books as others who answered have said. however, remember to find a " pure or true " ceremony or ritual would be almost impossible in these modern times as Christianity has corrupted ancient belief systems. remember when 2 cultures meet who have different belief systems and information is exchanged neither of the cultures retain the pure element. even Christianity has changed over the years. look at how many versions there are of THE HOLY BIBLE and the differnces in their meaning as an example.

Try the Book of the Dead for Egyptian ritual. The interpretation by Wallis E. Budge was translated in the 1920's I believe. You may try a more updated version. It was translated from hieroglyphics.

I only know about Nordic religion....there is absolutly no known written sources from before the 12th century. and those were written by people who had been christian for about as long as America has been a country. so we can speculate on Prechristian practices but we don't have a true understanding of it because all of the written sources are clouded by christian culture

I have one titled The Archeology of Ritual Magic that covers quite a bit of the cultures you mentioned. It is based in fact from numerous archaeological studies.
