The hypnotics that you're given can interact with the alcohol causing nasty reactions. Plus, alcohol does thin your blood a bit, and that's the last thing you need if a biopsy or polyp removal is done at the same time, or if you would incur a bowel tear or perforation.

Alcohol can interact with the medication they give to put you in "twilight sleep", it is recommended that you do not mix alcohol with any medication. Unless you want to be brave and do the colonoscopy without the medication.

Probably not supposed to eat or drink anything, plus the alcohol may constrict the blood vessels...hope you can stay dry for half a day! I had one...not so bad...

Your bowel track needs to be completely clear so they can see. You can only have clear fluids, water and that's about it.
