I do not think my religious beliefs should be legislated on people of a Democracy that do not share the same religious beliefs. I do believe the Gay Community are entitled as tax paying members of a Democratic country to equal protection and equal rights. I wish the Gay Community would have elected to call the legislation needed to protect their rights something other than marriage. Marriage has a cultural connotation as being between a man and a woman. I really do not see why a compromise could not have been reached. I think that many more Right Wing Christians would have accepted the Gay Communities request and the Right Wing Fanatical Christian Leaders would have had less fuel to add to the fire. Statistics demonstrate that the majority of pedophiles are heterosexual males, the majority of child molestation is done by family members and or friends. It is difficult for some heterosexual to accept that the difference between homosexuality and heterosexuality is the gender of the parties involved. The only thing dirty about it is the distorted picture that some heterosexual have created in their own dirty minds. As Christians are we not taught that sin originates in our thoughts.

Gay marriage nedds to be legalized.People need to get over themselves about this issue;beastiality and child pedophiles should not be legalized because there is nothing that would make me think that this type of behavior is right. What I find wrong with this comparison is that beastiality and child pedophilia don't belong in the same category as gay marriage;Gay marriage is a bond between two loving human beings whereas beastaility involves a loving human and an animal(disgusting!).Child pedophilia is love between an adult and a child.

I see you have gotten a ton of responses to this question. Adding one more to the bunch. I agree with you 100%. There is NO comparison to this at all and I think it's a weak argument for those that DO use this beastiality and pedophile argument in relationship to same sex marriages. It's crazy and just out right offensive to me. I can damn well assure the world that I certainly do NOT look at a child in a sexual way NOR do I look at my dogs in that way either!!!!

Give it time....
I think the do-gooders's last line of argument about the sanctity of the bond of marriage is losing credibility (thanks Renee and Kenny, Joe Millionaire and the Bachelor!).
Let's remember that we don't really need government consent for our relationships to feel validated.
To the chicky below me - how do you draw that conclusion? Two same sex partners are able to decide if they love each other.
Pedophiles coerce their victims - it isn't a mutual thing, it is predator/victim.
And Farmer Brown may think it's true love with his horse, but the animal can't consent. That's why pedophilia and beastiality are wrong. Cos they involve a party incapable of making informed decisions (if they have a choice at all)
That's the difference between them. That's why beastiality and pedophilia are ILLEGAL and being gay isn't.

Well, these crazy people see the comparison as being a logical one because they feel that homosexuality is as bad as the other two you mentioned. I also believe that they are going for the big "shock factor" to try to scare people into believing what they do.
I had the privilege to be in Boston 2 weeks after they legalized gay marriage at a "church" that openly accepts homosexuality and it brought me to tears. Some of these people had been together for 30 years and were overjoyed to be able to finally legally commit to one another.
and i just had to add this in...
you guys know the stupid bumper stickers that have a man + a woman that says "marraige yes! one man one woman?
well i just saw a sticker this weekend that had two women on it and = love.

A committed relationship between two consenting adults is a wonderful thing. To be legal and eligible for the benefits afforded traditional relationships is an awesome thing. I fail to see how I, as a lesbian, threaten the sactitude of holy matrimony by entering into a legal and binding relationship with the woman I love. It all goes back to the bible thumpers. I am not asking for their acceptance. I am just asking equality in the eyes of the law.

I think you have to be pretty perverted to believe that garbage! Besides, they must really be talking about what they fear their brethren would do, since ya know they're saying to give us gay marriage means others (not us) will want to marry animals, harems, and inanimate things. ;)
The bestiality thing is way ludicrous. The pedophile thing almost bugs me more from the perspective of the abused kids - it really dismisses the tragedy and begs off on the reality that most child sex abuse is by straight family and close straight family friends, and most all pedophiles identify as straight in their adult relationships. That's a real issue that would benefit hugely from much more public exposure. Sad that an absurd analogy about gay marriage is more important for the zealots to yell from their soap boxes. It speaks volumes about how much they genuinely care about family and children.

Yes there is definitely something wrong with saying that if same-sex marraige is legalized, next thing you know people will be marrying goats.
Personally, I think if you can get a goat down the aisle and say I do, then more power to ya!!! I don't care what people do in their homes so long as they aren't harming anyone else.

Yes they deserve to do whatever they want. No one has theright to tell someone else what to do. As to the "marriage has always been between man and a woman argument", homosexuality was very common in ancient greece and rome. Virgil said in one of his poems "and will he choose for his bride/ a blushing boy or virgin girl" ( It rhymes in Latin) As for the bestiality and pedophilia argument, this is another theory that's about as stable as a card house. They are both thinly veiled attempts by religious zealots to force their religion on everyone else. I am not gay but I respect others rights. Live and let live.
On another note, do you read the wheel of time books? Your name suggests it.

I agree. Two completely different things here. People have stereotypes of gays unfortunately. They think that since they are attracted to the same sex they are sick and perverted. I have no problem with gay and lesbian couples. They should have the same benefits as straight couples. I think in the next 10 years you will see gay marriage legal in the US.
