First, I am sick of hearing mainstream media only focusing on New Orleans. Katrina didn't hit New Orleans, they were side swiped. Katrina came ashore in Mississippi! Practically everything within 200 yards of the immediate coastline, from state line to state line (about 80 miles), was destroyed. Downtown Mobile Alabama had several feet of water in the streets....those people aren't waiting for the government to come give them anything and everything.

I am a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Coast. Fortunately, I received only minor physical property damage from the storm. Personally, I was most affected by my employment, or lack of immediately after the storm. Prior to, I had accepted a position at the new Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, and we were less than 48 hours away from opening the doors for the first time. Having spent nearly nine years now in the local casino industry, I knew this possibility existed. Now, Hard Rock Casino is rebuilding but it will be springtime before we are recalled, can't wait! I'm working in another casino...but my heart is with the Rock. Come visit us 7-04-07 when we open!

I was one of many who took advantage of the water, ice, and MREs distributed immediately after the storm...but this was the only 'hand-out' we wanted. The first thing we did after the storm was fly our American Flag, and grab a hammer and saw for clean up, then help our neighbors and their neighbors clean and repair their property.

As far as 'victims' who are sitting and waiting for the government to come restore their life....quit sitting on your work boots and find a job you lazy a@@! These people make me sick. Even fast food is now paying $10 per hour or more now because not many want to work. Where is your pride!?! No sympathy for those in New Orleans waiting for people to do the work for them.

True, people will always try to fraud insurance companies. I've also heard of people with connections who were paid more than they should have received. Overall, it's shameful of the insurance companies attempting to...basically reverse fraud their clients after many many years of paying high premiums for their storm coverage. I haven't directly encountered anyone who was denied by their insurance company, but I know there are many. Now, several insurance companies are threatening to discontinue coverage, or charge outrageous rates to their clients.

The effort and attitude of those here on the Mississippi Coast are to be commended....many many people have displayed the qualities that have made this a great country! "That little rainstorm isn't going to keep us down!"

Thank you to the many volunteers who came from all over the country to help us clean up and repair our homes and lives! I salute you!

The efforts here in Katrina land is moving mighty slow. Homeowners are fighting an uphill battle with
the Insurance companies. And recently some judges
have ruled in favor of the Insurance companies.
Right now Insurance agents are real low on the list
of favorite things in a person's life. Add to that
the scammers who are preying on the victims plus grants are being delayed due to incompetent people.
All the people who rushed down here to help after the storm are deeply appreciated. They are heros in
our eyes. God bless everyone who keeps us in their prayers and continues to look our way.

I believe the govt. has wasted more than enough money in Louisiana and if I were an insuarance company I would not pay one thin dime that I did not legitimately owe..
Being "needy" often means you are simply stuck in the welfare culture and too lazy to work...
NO sympathy here...
Too bad Katrina did not completly flush New Orleans out to sea.
I lived in South Louisiana for 25 yrs. and New Orleans is a corrupt waste of a city deserving not one penny of funds from the citizens of this nation.

THIS PAST TUESDAY HBO RAN A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HURRICANE KATHRINA AND THE AFTERMATH, AND I CAN ONLY ADVISE ANYONE TO GET A COPY OF THAT DOCUMENTARY BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. ANYONE WHO WATCHES WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEOPLE DOWN IN NEW ORLEANS, WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE STORM, AND WHAT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES DID TO THEM WILL HAVE TO RETHINK THEIR ATTITUDES ABOUT THIS SOCIETY.
FIRST OF ALL, THE GOVERNMENT IGNORED THE DISASTER AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.
SECONDLY, THERE ARE RUMORS THAT THE LEVEES WERE DELIBERATLY BLOWN UP.
THIRD OF ALL, WHEN PEOPLE TRIED TO LEAVE THE AREA THEY WERE FORCED TO GO BACK AT GUNPOINT
FOURTH OF ALL, A LOT OF THEM, IF NOT MOST, HAD FLOOD INSURANCE, BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES REFUSED TO PAY OUT. FEMA WAS A DISASTER, THE GVMT. A WORSE DISASTER, AND ACCORDING TO THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGENEERS THE DISASTER IN NEW ORLEANS WAS A MAN MADE ONE, NOT AN ACT OF NATURE....

IT SUCKS....INSURANCE COMPANIES AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WENT WRONG IS A STAIN ON HUMAN RIGHTS.... NO MATTER WHAT EXCUSES THEY COME UP WITH....

I'VE BEEN TO LOUISIANS AND WAS CURIOUS ABOUT HOW THOSE DAMS WOULD HOLD BACK THE OCEAN CAUSE NEW ORLEANS IS BELOW SEA LEVEL AND PEOPLE LIVED THERE SO NEAR DANGER..

HOPE THAT PEOPLE GET HELP AND CAN MOVE TO A SAFER SPOT...... REMEMBER THE INSURANCE COMPANIES WONT PAY OUT FOR FLOOD DAMAGE ....THATS THEIR EXCUSE .AND ANOTHER EXCUSE IS THEY DONT PAY FOR ACTS OF "GOD' .......

GOD DIDN'T DO THIS ....THE FAULT IS WITH THE CIVIL ENGINEERS .ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS AND ALL OTHER GOVERNMENT LACKEYS WHO WON'T HELP....

BUT I DO NOTICE WE ARE REBUILDING IRAQ, TURKEY, AND LEBANON ...WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE ?
