Sounds like gonorrhea, an STD. He should get tested--a family planning clinic will do STD tests if he can't afford a doctor. Antibiotics are the only treatment. If you're having sex with your friend, make sure he uses a condom, and if you (or anyone else) has had unprotected sex with him, they should be tested too--particularly if he comes up positive.

Women don't have obvious symptoms from gonorrhea, but they can still spread the disease and suffer serious long-term damage that can affect their ability to have children.

If the doc has checked him for any STDs or any other infections, and no problems, then the discharge should go away, with drinking plenty of clear fluids....
