To have a truly great movie you need the following:
1. A good story line/plot
2.Direction-who wants to watch a movie that's all over the place.
If it's supposed to be a drama then keep it that way.
3. Great editing- take out what doesn't need to be in it.
4. A good Producer/Director- someone who will not buckle to it's stars. If a picture is worth making than nothing will stop it. Look at Cleopatra, Ben Hur,and The Wizard of Oz.
-5. Finally- good talent. they don't have to be the best but they should rise to the occasion and make me believe who they are trying to be. Every old star (Paul Newman,Kirk Douglas) started out new

Great is as great does & can be a personal thing ... I have a friend with the worst taste ever in movies, every cheesy horror flick, pref. involving animals whether sci-fi or real, every really badly made, badly lit movie there is, he'll love it! Guaranteed. Those are great to him. For me though, a great movie is a great storyline, great dialogue, great acting (pref some eye-candy), great cinematography & an ending that isn't entirely predictable.

When it comes down to it. the Producer. Their responsable for all of the elements of the movie. If they make great decisions, than it will make 4 a great movie

A good beleiveable unique story, good actors acting fantastically, lots of action, twists, human interest & an unexpected end. Oh & hot special effects.

before the film starts you are warned this film contains strong language, violance and sex scene. this is how you know it will be a good film.
