I would recommend the video tutorials from total training. They are endorsed by Adobe and show you exactly what you need to be doing. They are a bit pricey, though.

I totally agree with Lo. Watching a video tutorial is so much faster than reading. What you see in a minute probably would take you 10 to understand when you read.
I had the same problem when I started with Photoshop. I am self taught and I think the best way to learn is to understand the tools first. Then think of a simple project to do and find ways and means to finish the small project.

No questions asked, the best site for Photoshop tutorials is: http://www.learnphotoediting.link
All tutorials are in video format, which makes them easier for you to follow along with the instructor. The videos are interactive and very easy to follow, this will help you learn piano three times faster. Good Luck!

Just use it. Mess around, experiment. Calling yourself a dummy is just shooting yourself in the foot.
It's not like you can break your computer mucking around in Photoshop! If you have a nice picture that you don't want to wreck, then copy the file. How hard is that?

tutorials, either from book or online are a great way to learn the program...to learn the menu choices and what they do,(and how to properly use them) takes time.
Do a search for photoshop tutorials.

I use this one all the time: http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/
not overyly complex and is step by step on what they show.
Otherwise, I play around in it. I get an idea of what I want and just start going.
