Yes!!! And their lives, too.

Good question! Rap is an art form and I believe that artists should have a lot of leeway with what they do. That being said, I would listen to rap a lot more if I wasn't constantly being called a ho and ***** in the lyrics. It's a tug-of-war between what seems to be an honest (if sometimes harsh) artistic expression and what is just insulting. I guess there are a lot of women who don't take offense at that though, because rappers certainly make a lot of money from both male and female fans, and there are no shortage of pretty girls willing to be in the videos.

No, they should use free speech just as they like it. Some stations should actually stop playing it, though, because rap is garbage -- by which I mean that it is self-aggrandizing by nature. So here's the quick wrap-up 1) They shouldn't clean up their lyrics because that would make it inauthentic, and 2) Nobody should listen to it because of the vile self-promotion that the genre is.

In my opinion, most rappers need to seriously clean up their act, but it needs to be by their own choosing. Forcing them to do it woud never work. Rappers really should think about the millions of young fans that idolize them. They need to understand that they are role models for kids whether they like it or not. And I'm sorry, but I don't think that constantly calling women bitches and hos and bragging about date-raping them qualifies as being a good role model. And that's just the tip of the iceberg: what about the celebration of violence and drug use in most rap? I understand that some view it as self-expression, but where do you draw the line? You could justify almost anything by saying it was self-expression.

I think that sometimes you have to use hard-hitting lyrics to get a point across. Perhaps some rappers could focus on writing songs that have more substance to them, though.

That part of the music industry is the most ridiculous.... to get paid to rap about doing drugs and screwing. That's so worthless. And to think people actually help these rappers buy big houses, clothes, jewelry and expensive cars by buying their worthless albums.

Yes, and don't forget the videos. Actually, the videos are worst because they visually teach children on how to "dress" (read "barely wear any clothes").

On some songs they should. But sometimes when they rap about whats real then no they shouldn't. You can't change people because you don't like what they say.
