So one of my friends just found out she's pregnant. I want to knit her something for the baby, and it will probably take me nine months...anyway, I've got a nice soft rainbow self-striping sock yarn, two 50g balls, which I figure will be sufficient to make something for a baby of as yet undetermined gender. Anybody know of any nice newborn patterns? My other quandary is this: The kid's scheduled to pop in the spring, so sweaters, coats, hats, etc. are out.

100gm of sock yarn should be enough for a small baby sweater, and Spring is the perfect time for sweaters. Or you can knit a hat and booties and have plenty left over. You'll need to buy more yarn if you want to knit a blanket.

I would suggest a nice little blanket. You can check out
www.lionbrand.com and check out the free patterns. It also had a bunch of other infant/newborn patterns. You might find something else that you might want to try. Good Luck!

Well, I'd recommend a nice blanket. Easy to do, and useful at any time of the year.
