In life we meet people all the time but some of them we take seriously and others we pay little attention to and take them as a joke. What makes you take a person seriously?
Appearance? Reputation? Financial Status? Race? Education? Verbal Expressiveness? Religion? Aggression? etc....

If they make rational sense when they speak, I take them seriously. I don't care if they are green men, with 3 cents in their pocket, who worship cows. If they say a few things that don't seem to make much sense or is just over opinionated garbage, than I throw most of what they've ever said into the 'What the hell do they know?' catagory. Even after that, I tend to still give people a chance to present their views or whatever. I always try to keep an open mind. Life has surprised me in the past, so why turn away from possibility? In general I feel that the more confident a Man is seen to be, the more seriously he is taken. I'm not sure if that is so true for a Woman. Self discipline and organization help people take one seriously as well. Most of all, I think it is about how you speak your mind and express yourself that makes people take you seriously or not.

My guess would be that first is appearance because when you meet someone, you first see them and how they look or are dressed. Then, how they speak. If someone looks well put together but then opens their mouth to speak and uses a lot of slang or you can't understand a word they are saying or they are a complete ditz, then I probably wouldn't take them very seriously. You also listed reputation and religion which are also true. If someone told me something horrible about a person before they met them, I would definitely be less inclided to take them seriously, especially if a good friend didn't like him/her. And yeah, religion can be a huge turnoff if you meet someone and they try to force their beliefs on you.

Who does anyone take anyone seriously? Someone dressed well, proper speech, make up (if women), etc. or do you take a vagabond or a person with frumpy clothes or a "jokester"? Appearances are your first impression and therefore the most seriously taken are well dressed / spoken. Race, education, religion are non-issues with me and doesn't make me take anyone more seriously than someone else.

Well you should take people seriously regardless of those things.... With a simple respect given to everyone.. even if you think they are doing dumb things.. But there are times when some actions should be ignored but also remembered.....

How that person makes us feel about our self. Sometimes people repel us, because they make us feel bad or fearful, directly or indirectly. Directly, by their physical appearance, voice or actions. Indirectly, because they remind us of someone [real or imagined] in our past that made us feel uncomfortable. Conversely the opposite is also true; if someone makes us feel good, or reminds us of someone that made us feel good, we are attracted to them. And thus we take seriously those people that make us feel good.
