I want to get my site up in the rankings and I just wondered if this is whats holding it back or if I should be focusing on other aspects.
What influences are more important in affecting search engine rankings?

HTML or XHTML validation has no effect or SERPs in itself - although it is best to have your pages validate for cross browser support.

Think of spiders as 'dumb' browsers you need to make sure that your html tags are properly nested otherwise they might miss some of the information.

Regarding what's important in SEO - there are hundreds of factors that will play a role in the way the pages are ranked.

1. links from other sites and the anchor text for these links
2. the 'perceived' importance of the sites giving you links (search the internet for 'authority sites')
3. page content and page structure
4. page , <h> tags, links from within the site (using the proper anchor text)<br /> 5. age of the site, server (if loads of downtime), IP address (for geolocation) etc...<br /> <br /> For more information have a read though http://www.webmasterworld.com </p> <p> <small> 2006-08-31 03:53:44 · <a href="#answer20060831035344">answer #1</a> · <span>answered by <u>le_gber</u> <b>3</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20161015222048" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #2</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> you should objective to make your code as neat and sparkling as plausible, case in aspect, in case you desire formatting which include sidebars, do not use tables, use <div form="waft: left/precise; exhibit: block">i'm a precise or left area bar!/div case in aspect.
