i'm a model, so i know what makeup they use on me and the other models for shoots.. once i had to wear bright yellow, and they put a soft, shimmery, light gold eyeshadow.. it looked perfect! try that with a little mascara, gloss, foundation, and brown liner.. black may be too dark depending on your hair and skin..

good luck and have fun at prom!! [aren't they usually in like april? lol idk]

MAC, Lancome, Estee lauder, Chanel... they all have great eyeshadow colors. Bring a picture of your dress or at least have something that matches the color(paint swatches work!) so you can show them, and see what kind of eye look they can come up with. Tell them what you're comfortable with, but let them do something new for you. They can show you how to do it if you like it. Do buy at least one thing from the person who gives you the winning look- they have goals to meet and that's fair if they spend time on you. You can probably get the other colors at the drugstore if you can't afford more than one thing.

It depends on the shade of yellow if its a bright yellow try a sparkly bage color if it's pale then try a darker shade of brown but in any case the good color of eyeshadow would be a brown, but it depends on the shade of yellow so before the prom experiment by putting your dress on and using different shades of brown. Hope this helped

Listen to lilmizaniml! Match makeup to your own coloring, not to your clothing. However, if you look good in a shocking yellow dress, I would say neutral/gold would be good for the eyeshadow.

Taupe. Taupe is a very confused color. It is a mix of gray and neutral brown. It can be any mix of those two but I would go with one that was more gray than brown. Put that all over your lid and just a bit in the crease. If you like to have something under your brow bone use a little transleucent shimmer... Finish with black eyeliner very close to the lash line and lots of mascara on top with just a swipe underneath.
Try it before your evening to see if you like it...I think you will!

Stick to more natural shades like pale pinks, beiges and such. Remember with a bright colour like yellow, you need to keep your face a little more neutral- or you might end up looking a little like a clown. Try a colour with the dress on and see which looks best.

Neutral shades will wash out your face.

Go to a color chart, find the shade that is across the dial from your shade of yellow. this will be your shade.....

Look in magazines and see what shades the models are wearing.

And remember your own natural coloring!

a light gold (sheer) base with a metallic bronze in the center for depth. If yellow looks good on you then I think you can handle black eyeliner. Try some false eyelashes for glamour (that is what the celebs do).

You don't need to match your makeup to your dress. Wear makeup that best fits YOU and works with your skin tone. I would do a search through the Emmy photos and see for yourself... There were a LOT of really colorful dresses this year.

Browns, beige, honey...if you want a natural look.
If you want to add color, light green, yelllow (there IS yellow shadow out there), white, and even light shades of red.

It just depends on your hair and skin color. I don't necessarily think you should try to match the dress. It's what looks good on your eyes.
