I measured the diameter of the existing shower arm, 5/8". The diamter of the new handheld showerhead attachment is 3/4". So the new attachment is bigger than the existing arm. That is a 1/8" difference. Can that be made up with teflon tape? Is ther some sort of adapter I can use? Please help.

You just need a coupler/adapter. Any hardware store should have it. m

You will be happy to know that your local hardware store should have an adapter that will allow you to move from one size to the other. I would take the shower head into the store and tell the hardware person that you need to reduce the end that is too big down to the smalleer size. then you just attach with a wrench carefully and you will not have problems! Good luck.

Behind the head is the part you need to unscrew. You'll need a pair of channel locks (a type of pliers). Turn it counter clockwise and it should screw right off. It may take a little muscle to loosen it, then it should turn off by hand. It sounds like you just are turning the head itself. If you look at your new one you'll see the threaded part I described. Note: there should be a rubber washer inside the new showerhead. If there isn't, you'll need to apply teflon tape to it prior to screwing it on.

You would have to get an adapter going from 3/4" pipe to 1/2" pipe sounds like. 1/2" pipe is pretty standard for shower heads

Take it to home depot and talk to them. There are adapters you can buy that will fix this issue for you.
Teflon tape is only a temporary fix and will not last long at all. Just get an adapter.

3/4" by 5/8" bushing in chrome/brass/galvanized.

Walk into a plumbing supply and say adapter they'll laugh. Use the proper terminology, it's a BUSHING.

Go to a hardware store tell them what you want to do and they will find an adapter that will work. Don't try the tape thing, it will always be leaking.

The home depot or lowes should have an adapter...if not call a local plumbing supply house...this has to be a common problem.

go back to where you bought the shower head and get the 3/4" extention, you'll have no problems, use tape or thread dope on the new pipe
