I have several favorites:

The Oracle Glass (about the French poisoning scandal and La Voison's society in the 17th century...fictional story with factual references)

Fortune's Rocks (about a young girl that experiences sex and motherhood early on in the 18th century, East Coast of U.S.)

The Chronicles of Narnia (all of the books)

Memnoch the Devil (Anne Rice and her take on a vampire's opinion of the devil...experiencing the devil...etc.)

Harry Potter (all of the books)

and several others.

Not counting the Bible (which really is my favorite), my next favorite book would have to be either Kendermore or Dragonlady of Pern.
