I am about to go to university (I live in the UK) and i have been told i need to be vaccinated against Meningitis C and have the MMR vaccination (Measles, mumps, rubella), but i have already had them. does anybody know how often you are supposed to have them? i havent had MMR since 1994, and i was vaccinated against meningitis C in 2000, so do i need them again now?

I've just had my boosters done as I'm a teacher working in an FE college in London and didn't get the Meninigitis C jab done was I was at school, college and Uni. The current advice is that everyone under 25 (esp if at college/Uni) needs to have a meningitis C jab done, if they haven't already. In your case, you don't need a Meningitis C jab, because it's one dose for life and you've already had yours! The MMR jab (esp Rubella for women and Mumps for men) needs to be boosted every 10 years. Until last month, my last MMR jab was in 1993 so well overdue! Your last one was done the year after me, so you will probably need one as well.

By the way, I also suggest that you get a TB jab done too, if you haven't already had it, especially if you're going to University in London. If you have had it, that is also a one dose for life injection, so you won't need to have a booster for that either.

For further advice, speak to your GP or practice nurse.

Hope this information helps!

How strange. My brother is going to Uni next month and hasn't received this notice.

I would be extremely suprised if Uni's can stipulate that you MUST have the vacinations.

Re Rubella, Mumps and Measles, if you've had these you should not have an injection as your body will reject it anyway.....

The immunity from the diseases you mention lasts for life you do not need to be reimmunised.

Ask your G.P. and if he agrees that you do not, ask him for a note for the University authorities.................
