Yes, foods high on the glycemic index can lead to a sugar crash. Look at the link I've provided about the glycemic index, and try to select most of your fruits, vegetables and grains with an index of about 50 or less. Foods are the most important "drugs" that we consume!
Exercise is also very important in combatting depression.
But, I'm concerned about you being under a doctor's care for depression and not getting effective results from your therapy!
With so many different and effective types of antidepressants on the market today, there's no reason to suffer along with one that doesn't work! If your antidepressant medication isn't effective, talk to your doctor about trying a different one. I tried 2 before starting on Welbutrin, and it's made a world of difference for me!

Its hard to answer when you have not completed the sentence. Take you meds if you are on them. If you are dieting get a good multiple vitamin. Centrum is good and break it in half as the outer coating is thick on it some times it will not dissolve. Also get a B complex vitamin and take that extra. A healthier died is great and I would include some tofu or other protein source-- eggs.

By restricting yourself and denying your self luxuries and choices it tends to increase depression i know, but look for B vitamins in food which does elevate mood such as fish red meat veggies bread enriched cereals.
Try doing other things to help depression such as swimming going to the park movies, beach, shopping, camping or a holiday something fun

Improper diet may lead to depression if you have a predisposition to it. Foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids and Inositol may help the mood. But these things are not clinically proven. Research is going on.
If you have depression it is safer to take antidepressants. Depression is more dangerous than antidepressants to health anyway.

Fish sister Fish. Fish is a good source of protein. But one important thing is that it works opposite of other meats. Other meats fats raise your bad cholesterol. Fish lowers your bad cholesterol and raises your good cholesterol. A famous doctor reciently stated "all research has proven women unlike men, do not get healthier just by lowering their bad cholesterol, they must raise their good cholesterol."
ps. there is a diet called the Heart Cabbage Soup Diet. It lowers your weight quickly. You lose mostly liquids at first but then it really works believe me. But to sustain that diet I added one entity, eating fish on any day even when the diet does not state so.

Eating healthy and exercising does help depression naturally. My boyfriend suffers from depression and as long as we exercise and eat good, he does not need to take medicine for the depression.
