You have to go to school to be a journalist and then work your way up from theater, art, etc. Unless you know someone it can take years to even be a critic for a local paper. You also have to study film while in school. Not just the art of film but the business of film.

You have to have good taste. Oh wait no you don't most film critics are incompetent. You have to sit and write reviews of crappy films for a long time until the head film critic dies and hopefully you are promoted to their position. But not anymore. If you want to be a film critic you should start now by setting up your own site and doing online reviews. There's no excuse for waiting to sit on the desk at some relic of a newspaper anymore. Many have gained fame writing reviews online. If you're smart you can parlay this into money and make a living at it -- you'd certainly have a better chance that way than the old way

I suggest you start writing for free for like the school paper or something.
