If you want to expand your romances into the paranormal realm, let me know and I can recommend a boatload!
I've read Sandra, Iris and Nora. Another good one is Suzanne Brockman. I'm thinking of her Navy Seal series. She goes through her cast of characters one by one, writing the story of their personal romance. They're quite good, have lots of action, and the sex is quite hot! And you actually get two romances, or two stories for the price of one. There's always a subplot being told at the same time.
Linda Howard is also right in there. Although her heroes have a tendency to be cavemen, the stories are still quite good. They're also mysteries. My personal faves are Dying to Please and Open Season.

Please check out the series of stories by Janet Evanovich, particularly those written about the character Stephanie Plum. The first is called "One for the Money." Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter without a clue, and manage to get into hilarious situation. There is mystery, suspense, romance, action, and a LOT of humor. There are now 13 books in the series, and all are worth the read. I doubt you'll be disappointed!
Happy reading!

Try a new genre. I like all the same authors but you might be in a rut. Try reading Sheri Tepper's book Grass or her book Gateway to Womans Country. Great reads. Another good one is Sharyn Mc Crumb...any of her books are good. Dan Brown's Angels and Demons is better than the DaVince code. A great book is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

Diana Gabaldon is an amazing author. She wrote the Outlander series, about a woman who was transported into the 1800's and falls in love with a powerful, younger man. Together with her knowledge of the future and his status, they help out the war and famine in scotland during that time period. Great books, and the characters stay with you for a long time after you've finished reading!

This is not exactly what you described, but I can suggest two books that might be of interest, both by James Michener--"Hawaii" and "The Source". Hawaii definitely has romance, beautiful love stories and a great deal of actual history in it, it is a beautiful book. The Source is about a fictional archaeological dig in Israel and Michener traces the history of the region and of religion itself by telling the story of the city that once thrived there. There is some romance, however the book's real value is in teaching how religion (the big 3, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) evolved in that area, and their relationship to each other, so it is especially valuable in today's political climate. Anyway, those are my 2 picks.

One of the best mystery writers to emerge in th 90's was Laurie R. King. Two magnificent series as well as 3 free standing novels.
Also check out Dana Stabanow, particularly her Kate Shugak series which is set in remote parts of Alaska

Try Mary Higgins Clark, or Carol Higgins Clark. Also Janet Evanovich has humorous mysteries. More serious novels would be Kathy Reichs, which can get a bit gorey though.

I see you like female authors, I dont usually read them, but you should try James Patterson's books either the Alex Cross novels or the Womens Murder Club Series. The Alex Cross books usually have a nursery rhyme sounding title like "Jack and Jill" or "Roses are Red". The Womens Murder Club go in numerical order, "1st to Die" "2nd Chance" "3rd Degree" etc..
