Religion was created by man as a way for rulers to manage their people. If a governing body gives the people material things of comfort and supplies "holy" literature to them that promises an eternal life, will that make them subordinate and non-rebellious? I think it would.

Would there be more order in the world if the people of the world would invest that energy assigned to religion to caring for themselves, others, and the planet?

You have generalized a topic and named it as fact. I find it curious that you only feel Christianity practiced in the US has done this harm. So, Christianity practiced outside the US hasn't done any harm?
