I think the english (myself included) hate being told what to do and tend to try and carry on regardless. Will this happen with smoking? What do you think?

Hell yeah!!!As if we are genna stick to it!What like we do with the drink driving and the talking on mobiles whilst driving!!Get real!!!

Good question. I lived in New York when the smoking ban was first enforced there. Even stubborn New Yorkers followed the new rules, so I'm pretty sure it will be followed in England.

No-one will pay the slightest bit of notice. Plus, what are they going to do, employ pavement watchers to catch anyone smoking in a public place?! We don't even have enough police to enforce the drug laws that we have (not that i'm complaining!) let alone stop people from smoking when and where they want.

For myself, No. If I could quit I would have. I accept the right of others not to breathe my smoke, but they have got to accept my need to smoke. can't have one without the other. I don't want to breath fumes from cars, as a non driver should I believe cars should be banned.

I can't believe for one minute that everyone will stick to it, but I do think there will be a marked improvement. My folks were in Ireland earlier this month, and they said the difference was amazing - everywhere seemed so much cleaner and fresher. I've heard similar comment from my colleagues in our Glasgow Office.

i don't think it will get banned altogether cos thats where a lot of the tax money comes from!!
i know a few people that have stopped going to certain places because they cant smoke!

hell yeah, i cant see how the ban is going to last, i mean go up to a bloke in a pub and tell him to stop smoking and you'll end up getting the 2 fingers and a very loud fu*k off!!
so no, i cant see that 1 happening

I'll carry on smoking regardless. They should have decided to have smoking and non-smoking areas.

It will probably be as successful (or not) as the ban on using mobiles while driving.
