does this mean they are typing to you, or to anyone on their friends list? Why does it often say they are "typing a message" but then nothing comes through? I notice this with several different friends and am just trying to understand. Thanks!

It means that they are typing to you, but than before they pres enter they take a brake and therefore its not coming thru yet, but when they press enter it will come to you immediately, hope this helpes

If it doesn't come through then your friend decided not to send whatever message they just typed. When it says "typing a message" it means a friend is typing something in the chat window that he/she currently has open with you.

That message refers to the person you are having the conversation with. If you notice the message that means they are typing to you.

It means that they are typing to you. Even when you are pressing the space bar the bottom says "*** is typing a mesage".
Mybe your friends delete what they have written and the screen says they are typing a message.

Depends. If you are the only one your friend is chatting with, then he's/she's typing a message for you and didn't send it yet.
Otherwise, it could be a message to anyone, like another friend who invited him/her to chat but didn't invite you for some reason.

this just happens when the IM window is on top or there are some words in the text box. It is different for all users and providers but there really only one way to know is just to wait for the message or talk to some one one the phone while they are on the IM to fiqure it out.

It means that they're writing a message to you.
If nothing comes through then maybe they erase the message or maybe that they hit a key by mistake.... and then it would seem that they're writing something and actually they aren't.

its suppose to mean they are typing to you but sometimes yahoo messes up and tells you when they are just typing anything
