Ok here goes...

Many years ago a small number (a few) child labourers (working children) were attempting (trying) to traverse a more elevated position (go to a higher up place to work) in a vain attempt (it was never going to work) to procedure a quarter of a rundlet (sorry don't know this word) of hydrogen and oxygen compuond (hyd.. and oxy.. are chemical substances that make up water = H2O); half their number experienced an uncontrollable desent (half the children fell down the slope out of control) which resulted in severe (serious) damage to the pate. And soon it came to pass (soon it happened) that the rest of the labor force (the rest of the working children) followed suit (did the same thing) but with far lass consequesces (but with far less damaging result)

Hope that helps, some of the paragraph (what you wrote) does not make sense itself so don't feel too bad about not being able to understand it!!!

As others have written though, if you really read it, my transa]lation might help it is a very very posh version of the Jack and Jill nursery rhyme.
