The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

You first needs to decide what type of company yoy want to start. Sole Proprietorship, LLC, LP, C corporation, S corporation. Then you can find out how to start that compnay. There is a book I read to get me started. It is called Own your own corporation by Garrett Sutton. I bought it on e-mail for $11. it will tell you about each corporation and the positives and negatives about each. It also goes over what to do to set up this type of company. We just started an LLC, all we had to do was make sure our name wasn't being used then file our Articles of organization with the state and pay a $200 dollar fee (Did not have to pay 5400 for an attorney). It took two weeks and we got our Articles back from the state and a packet telling us what needed to be done from there. Hope this helps.

Set aside a day to do this. Find one license that you need. (i.e. your state and city business licenses) Call them, ask them what other licenses you need. Get those, and ask those people the same. Find out if you need a professional license. Get an EIN number, or use your social. Get insurance. Get a bank account. File with the secretary of state if you are a partnership, or PLLC, or P.S., etc. Call the secretary of state for guidance, or hire an attorney that practices in this field. Their are a plethora of books that can guide you through this process. Then advertise your business. Good luck!

You should be able to find ample information on your home state's web page.

Depending on the type of business, some being much more complex then others - you might want to consider highering an attorney.

I used an attorney to establish an LLC that was fairly complicated in the state of NJ. It took about six months for all of the licensing paperwork and nonsense to clear, but it was well worth the 5400 I paid the attorney to do it instead of me!

Good luck, hope you do well!
