An annulment is a proceeding that is initiated to declare a marriage invalid. The grounds for an annulment include anything that would make a marriage invalid from the beginning. Grounds vary from state to state, but commonly include nonage (i.e., one or both spouses was below the age of consent at the time of marriage); insanity; intoxication; incest; fraud; duress; bigamy; impotence (i.e., inability to consummate the marriage); refusal to consummate the marriage; or loathsome disease. A failure to meet any of the formal requirements for marriage specified in the laws of the state in which the marriage took place may also be grounds for annulment, unless the state is one that recognizes common law marriages. In some states, a failure to agree as to whether or not to have children may also be grounds for annulment.

There is more, but I have given you a link to read it all for yourself. I hope you find the answer you're looking for.

I have to add something about the Kennedy annulment...I believe they are catholic and catholic religion doesn't believe in divorce. The believe all marriages are permanent, but annulment means the marriage never existed.

Don't confuse an annulment granted by the Catholic Church, which only has religious significance, and one granted by the courts which is a legal thing. After 6 months, unless you can show fraud, which includes such things as not disclosing impotence or sterility, or being too closely related, or can show you never had sex, annulment is very difficult. Alas, divorce is the answer in most cases. I hope there were no children.

You have to have the right reasons to get it annulled. Otherwise it won't happen. Divorce can happen either way, but annulment is saying the marriage never existed.
As for the person that answered about the Kennedy guy. He is a Kennedy, they get away with rape and murder, an annulment is nothing for that klan.

No, it's not too late. One of the Kennedy's (Joe) had his annulled after many years of marriage and twin boys.

It depends on the situation. If you're just not liking being married anymore, and you don't have another reason (such as substance abuse or infidelity), then it's too late.

There has to be a proven real reason. For example, duress or fraud.
