I quite like heavy metal, yet I'm positively against violence, so I'd be tempted to say 'no'. However, I can see that the lyrics can be quite, er, brutal at times, and some people may listen to it in order to appear tougher, or something. Those kinda people could be quite violent, I would imagine... I suppose, like most things of this nature, it varies from case to case.

just guessing from the way the question is formulated that you don't actually listen to heavy metal.

While Rock'n'Roll was the devils music of the 60's, heavy metal gained that label in the 80's. Funny enough from the same people who used to listen to rock'n'roll.
So to try to answer your question; I think people who listen to Metal have found a way to vent aggression in a non-violent way.
Just because some idiots who happen to listen to Metal smash stuff doesn't mean everyone who listens to Metal is going to beat you up.

No, not at all. Heavy Metal music is high energy music. Most of the lyrics are just silly.

absolutely not, like alll stereotypes it is true in some cases, but even if a person is violent it is not because of the music they listen to. i happen to be a very laid back person, and i listen to a lot of metal.
