The only one I would say would be Toyota, they both keep up with the value, if you have to trade it in you will not lose. Only other brand that is in that price range to compare it to.

Honda is always compared to Toyota and Nissan because the three of them make up the "Big 3" in Japan. Mazda is seen as a Japanese company although it is a part of Ford's Motor Group. Toyota is the closest to Honda as far as reliability is concerned. Nissan is closer to Honda's lineup because Toyota does not currently have a sports car to compete with Honda's S2000.

Honda Fit = Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa
Honda Civic = Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3
Honda Accord = Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Mazda 6
Honda S2000 = Nissan 350Z, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda RX-8
Honda Element = Toyota Rav4, Nissan Xterra, Mazda Tribute
Honda CR-V = Toyota Rav4, Nissan Xterra, Mazda Tribute
Honda Pilot = Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Pathfinder, Mazda CX-7
Honda Odyssey = Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest, Mazda MPV
Honda Ridgeline = Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, Mazda B Series

By no means can you compare a Honda to anything american made, as far as quality goes. A honda civic will get easily 500,000kms on the original engine and tranny, but doing this in a chev cavalier or cobalt is nearly impossible. Japanese quality control is so far ahead of american that it is cannot be compared.

But to answer your question, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, and soon to be Mitsubishi (give them a few more years) are very close.

Normally it depends on what vehicle you are referring to. If it is the Honda Civic, The comparisons to that vehicle are the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and the Chevy Cobalt. If it is the Honda Accord, the comparisons would be to the Nissan Maxima, Toyota Solara, Hyundai Sonata, Mitsubishi Galant, and the Ford Fusion.

Toyota is the closest other brand in terms of quality, dependability and resale value.

Hyundai still has too many problems as does GM, not to mention you'd be slaughtered on the resale value of a Hyundai. GM vehicles are a little better on resale.
