I would stick felt to the feet, or a cardboard coaster liberated from your local public house.

Put a carpet down, then your floor wont get scratched or put wire mesh in front of the sofa to stop Kitty's ping pong balls getting under it. If you are not happy with those solutions, you can buy little saucer like things which will allow your sofa to be moved without scratching the floor.

I've got an idea that work for my cat's ping pong ball. Take a knife and carefully cut a small slit in the side of the ball. Take a button, tie a string to it, the work the button carefully through the slit into the ball. You can accordian up a piece of paper and tie it, in the middle, to the other end of the string. You end up with a ball at one end, paper at the other. The button should rattle to provide even more fun for kitty, and the paper adds an additional toy. That, and even when the ball gets knocked under the sofa, the other end of string is exposed so you can pull it back out without moving furniture. It worked great for me, at least.

Don't drag it, lift it up and move it.
You could also use a yard stick to reach under the sofa to liberate the ping pong balls and then you don't have to move it, that's what we do.
You could also put a "skirt" around the bottom so that the balls can't get under in the first place.

Some years ago it was possible to buy "cups" for the castors to sit in - these were made of heavy duty plastic and did not mark the marley tiled floor. If they are still manufactured - they should work just as well on your wooden floor.

I have wooden floors too. The best thing to get is felt patches. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes and maybe even Walmart.
They are stick on felt pieces that adhere to anything they are applied to. I put them on the bottom of all my furniture including my big screen tv. That way you can move the furniture without damaging the floor.

Buy the teflon floor protectors that go under the legs. The piece will slide easily and yet not mar the floor.
Felt = Old Technology
Teflon = New Technology

Alot of stores sell special felt pads just for this sort of thing. We also have hardwood floors, so I went to walmart and found them. They come in different sizes and are in packages or 8 and 16 I believe. We put them on all the furniture just to be safe. It makes it easier to move and rearrange the furniture. They are fairly inexpensive too.....like less than $5.00. and they already have the sticky stuff on them...just peel off the backing and stick on.

Yes. Use carpet pieces. Just cut them to size and glue them, carpet side facing the floor, on to the bottom of the feet - do not nail or staple!

Get carpet backed caster cups. The feet will fit in the cups and the carpet will make it easy to move and scratch-proof to the wood floor

get teh pads to stick onto your sofa's feet. if your sofa has no feet and the bottom of it still is a threat to your wooden floor, try putting an old rug under the sofa or something.
