why are people so scared of spiders?me included,?

If you made yourself handle spiders on a daily basis the irrational fear you have would be gone, there is a part of a person ingraded in instinct that knows spiders can be venomous, though with the brain you have been given you can rationalize andpick up a spider that ou are instinctivly scared off though this is not always the case. The way thay move is different they themselves are different completly to you. there is always your imagination too like you may imagine the spider jumping off the floor onto you which is just a scary thought though if you had lived through that a lot it would not bother you I guess it's simply the natural fearof the unknown, I sometimes find I cant make myself pick up a spider the tell myself to pick it up as it is irrational and this is the best way for any for confrontation

I have a tarantula called Bert who may not be a cute and cuddly creature but he has a personality, he does enjoy peoples company, does not cost very much.

If he get cross then he realises small little hairy darts which are rather like being stung by a stinging nettle his way of saying OK please stop.

His eyes are on his head and he has lovely stripey legs with a large body (rather hairy)
As for jumping onto the floor he is not that way inclined it is a long way down from my shoulder.

He will pulse on my hand if he is happy his whole body gently goes up and down and in the spider world it is contentment.

Individual taste as to what people perceive as a pet, cute and cuddly or insect like.
As to being scared of them imagine what we look like to them of the two I would be more afraid of the human.

Well,.. People have to be scared of something. And People being scared of bugs are quite common. Which in this case, you are AraChnophobia . Though, don't worry. It's a very common phobia. Most people are scared of spider becuase they have lots of legs? Or bad experience, they're hairy and have alot of eyes?

i think they are aliens. i mean, 8 legs??? they can move at rediculous speeds and they can spin webs - what else can do that, and not jumping but they can hang down from a web. thats NOT NORMAL. i mean, id fall over if i had 8 legs. i think people are so scared of them because our subconscious minds know that they are invaders from another planet and are here observing us before they take over- i have a recurrent nightmare where they evolve and grow wings. i hope that doesnt happen for a long time.

or maybe its just that people have seen stephen kings 'it' and now associate spiders with clowns, cuz theyre pretty freaky too.

I dont mind them really. But weirdly enough, I get the creeps if I see a dead one! Now what's that all about. I can't dispose of dead spiders, I just want to vomit when I see them, in fact I hate all dead insect, they are disgusting. But I can catch and dispose of live ones by thowing them out the window, using a special container I keep just for that job.

well its not a bundle of joy to wake up in the middle of the night and find a big hairy spider chewing on your nose I'm not only out of bed sharpish I'm out the bloody window as well and if its a tarantula i think of emigrating

I beleive it has to do with the way they look, It isn't normal and the idea they have a poison that will jellify the internal organs of their prey is just creepy.

I think that with their 8 legs fanned out, they appear bigger than they actually are. Even the biggest tarantula look small with all it's legs removed.

I don't know, but I run out of the room when I see one... Maybe because of those 8 legs and those ugly eyes....
