I had this, it was a bra wire stuck under the drum that kept poking through and ripping holes in my clothes, or could be a bra wire that is sticking out through the bra when washing.

This depends on what you do, and at what point you've noticed the holes.

Are the problems from clothes coming right out of the dryer? Do you work around a lot of chemicals (cleaning chemicals included?) Pay attention to which clothes are getting the holes, and what kind of things you do in those clothes- bleach and other concentrated cleaning chemicals (even your laundry soap) splattered directly on the fabric can make this happen. So can acids or alkalines from gardening, cooking, etc. Small metal fibers from grinding, etc, will do the same thing. My jersey sheets get this - it's a stress point, and the fibers break down there causing a line of teeny holes along the edge of the mattress corner.

As for moths, this is more of a problem if you have natural fibers than synthetics- they're not a big fan of rayon or spandex or fleece; but wool is a favorite. Not sure about cotton or silk. To prevent, stuff cedar chips (available for cheap as pet bedding in pet stores) in nylon stocking toes in your closet, and stick them in your drawers. No more moth problems.

Moths, maybe. Or whatever you're sitting on or leaning against has something sharp sticking out that you don't notice. I used to get a hole in all my pants in the exact same place before I realized there was a small pin sticking out of my bike seat.

It could be the bleach in the wash .

Do you have cats? I had a similar problem and discovered that when the cats nails go through your garment , it isn't noticeable right away but eventually the hole gets bigger due to the weave of the fabric.

I had this happen to me and figured out that it was the laundry mat - the dryers run super hot and then thin the fabrics of the clothes causing holes.

In the alternative, depending on your job, you could be bringing home small fibers in yoru clothes that shred them when washed or dried (ie manufacting job). That happens often to my husbands clothes.

If they are appearing after washing your clothes , you may need to repair the felt seal in the dryer, check to make sure something is not stuck in the seal

silver fish or moths in your cupboard and drawers. Find a shop (supermarket) and see if they still sell the little silver fish hanging strips ....no they don't get the little silver fish to commit suicide by hanging!!! You hang them up or put them in your drawers and they are attracted to that, eat it and die. Very effective and not too smelly like mothballs are.....you can always put lining paper in your drawer like a nice lavender scented one to mask the smell and make your clothes smell nice. There are other things you can do too like hanging pot pouri balls in there too.....

If you smoke, especially roll-ups, you may be getting tiny lit particles of tobacco burning holes in your clothes.
